Secca, CITY OF FIDENZA
The themes of mountain trekking and the Apennine landscape hold personal significance for David, reflecting his own upbringing and deep-rooted passion for the mountains in all their facets. His firsthand experiences, traversing the Apennine from its inner valleys to the sea, or from the plains to its highest peaks, and staying in bivouacs or tents, have deeply influenced the Secca chair’s design. This piece embodies the essential, yet fundamental, needs of a traveller after a long day’s walk, offering a practical yet aesthetically pleasing solution that captures the essence of the mountain journey.
Secca chair is an iconic and austere piece designed for the La Casetta del Viandante exhibition at the ADI Design Museum. It is crafted entirely from solid ash wood and a singular metallic pivot, this design allows for the movement of the backrest, ingeniously concealing a dual function: chair and drying rack. The Secca chair addresses the basic needs of those journeying on foot. The backrest can unfold like a fan, transforming into three elements upon which to dry wet clothes, ensuring that travellers can continue their journey comfortably the following day.
